Blueberry Razz Ginger Smoothie

Happy Smoooooothie Tuesday! So glad you’re here. Took a little intermission last, week but I’m coming back strong with this blue beauty.

I was thinking about telling you about all the reasons you’ll love this smoothie. Like how it’s a delightful blend of mellow and sweet from the blueberries, but hits you with that zing from the raspberries and ginger. Or how it’s perfect for smoothie lovers who might want to experiment with some banana free options, but still get the sweetness and creaminess from the dates.

But I also had something happen this weekend that I really wanted to share. From sharing stories in the past, I know a lot of fellow bloggers and blog readers are also introverts (hi guys, what’s up). And I had kind of an introvert breakthrough moment this weekend that might just help with your next big social hoopla.

On paper, this weekend was an introvert’s nightmare.

Last Thursday and Friday, I was in New York City for a 2-day meeting … aka sitting in a room talking with my collegues and several people I had never met before for hours and hours and hours. Then I had the pleasure of plunging myself into the sea of humans that was Penn Station at 3pm on Friday aka the POPE-ZONE to take a train home. Then I immediately drove to a house filled with relatives for my cousin’s wedding the following day.

However, miraculously (for me) I managed to have a great time, with little anxiety. So I started to think about how something that would normally throw me out of whack, ended up being totally ok and I came up with these two things:

1.) I Took away distractions

This might sound counter intuitive, if you tend to be drained by extended amounts of social activity, but when I’m around a lot of people, I find it much more enjoyable and time goes by so much faster when I don’t have a phone to distract me. I find that switching in and out from a face-to-face interaction to being absorbed in my phone is actually more draining, than if I’m fully engaged in one or the other. On Saturday, I left my phone at the house we were staying at and just enjoyed the wedding and my family… aka I poked my sister and cracked up as my mom was using a selfie stick for the first time.

2.) I Took Breaks without guilt

When I became more aware of my introvertedness I started giving myself permission to take little breaks in social situations. Sometimes that’s an extra long pee break or a little walk outside or just being “anti-social” with one other person. I’m trying to get over that feeling of being “judged” for needing this, but ultimately it’s the only way I can really enjoy myself when I do dive back into the crowd. And for the record, I did bust quite a few moves, but nothing compared to my little cousin who totally #slayed.

So yes, this smoothie is quite wonderful, but so are all you introverts. I feel yo struggles. Oh, and for the extroverts? You rock too. Seriously, you’re the reason I make it out to the dance floor because you look like you’re having so much fun.
