Velvety Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie

Having this chocolate raspberry smoothie for breakfast is like telling the world you’re already winning and it’s only 9am.Having this chocolate raspberry smoothie for breakfast is like telling the world you’re already winning and it’s only 9am.

Forget Transformation Tuesdays, we’ve got SMOOOOOTHIE TUESDAYS. (Ok, that might have been a little too enthusiastic, but I was trying to make a point.)

I have a bit of a confession… I used to be team vanilla. Yup. Not that I actively didn’t like chocolate, I just didn’t see the hoopla. When I had the choice it was always vanilla. Over time I’ve learned to embrace more chocolate into my life, especially of the dark variety.

More recently chocolate has become a much bigger part of my smoothie rotation and I couldn’t be happier. Maybe it’s just me, but when I have some form of chocolate in the morning whether it’s a smoothie or overnight oats or a yogurt bowl, I feel like I’m already winning. Like I cheated without being caught. I want to yell to the world “I’M HAVING CHOCOLATE FOR BREAKFAST AND YOU CAN’T STOP ME.”

But want to know the best part? This raspberry chocolate smoothie has no added sugars, just the sweetness from the fruit which means you’re not gonna crash mid-morning. It really is like cheating the system. YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL. Oh geez, I apologize for all the yelling, I’m just super passionate about having chocolate at breakfast, I guess.

The secret to this smoothie’s awesomeness is unsweetened cocoa powder. Something about cocoa powder makes the texture of smoothies unreal. It’s a rich, velvety texture without weighing you down. I also like to add chocolate protein powder for that 1-2 chocolate punch.

Oh, but we can’t forget about the raspberries. They are one of my absolute favorite fruits and favorite ingredients in smoothies. They balance the mellow sweetness of frozen bananas with a powerful, sweet-tart umph. If I ever make a smoothie that feels like it’s missing something I always add a handful of raspberries and it does the trick. Another fantastic thing about these berries that they’re low in sugar. So really this smoothie is just win on top of win on top of win.

Ready to conquer the world? (or at least your morning) Blend this baby up and go!
