Something magical happened in Cambridge recently, well magical for a smoothie obsessed blogger anyway. Liquiteria, one of my favorite smoothie joints in NYC, just opened shop in Harvard Square. A couple months ago walking through Cambridge, I saw that they were building a store and I audibly gasped. The best part was my sister’s reaction though, she naturally thought that I must have seen a corgi from across the street (aka the only other thing that would get me this excited.)

Nellie joined my first long-ish run of my half marathon training last Sunday, and being the geniuses we are, we planned our route to end at Liquiteria. Talk about efficient post-run fueling.

I got the “deep blue açai” and asked for almond butter… on top of the smoothie and it blew everyone’s mind. They have awesome almond butter and rather than blend it up I like having it at the bottom of the smoothie, you know like a not crazy person. Apparently no one had ever asked them to do that before, so they referred to me as a trail blazer. Dramatic? Maybe. But I’m totally content that being a smoothie trail blazer would be my one claim to fame.

I plan on trying every one of their smoothies this summer because remember I’m a normal person and that’s what a normal person would put on a summer bucket list… right? Don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated. Wait you don’t care? Too late. Smoothie updates for life!

Anyway, back in my kitchen, when I’m not shelling out my hard earned cash for delicious smoothies, I’m making my own, which are pretty damn good if I do say so myself. This recent creation was inspired by the mighty blueberry. I don’t give this berry enough credit. Let’s be real, raspberries and blackberries will always be the best, but blueberries are not to be ignored. Sweet and bursting with juicy flavor and gorgeous colors these berries are just begging to be blended.

Warning: blueberries have been known to make your smoothie look almost too pretty to drink….almost. Also you might get “blue tooth” a term my sister and I invented when we actually made a mess of our faces drinking pretty purple smoothies.
This Blueberry Banana Power Smoothie is perfectly balanced. Sweet, tart, thick, packed with protein, fiber and greens, yeah it has it all. Blueberries, raspberries and bananas are the flavor stars balanced with a little nutritional oomph from the kale and flax seed. Maybe I won’t need to go to Liquiteria that much after all (hahahahaha…ha… ha?)
